Developing my skills on Final Cut Express

i think i learned how to use final cut to a good standard in the end and with me and Dan d taking turns i think we was able to watch each over and learn which was good because it was our first real time using the programm. also our team work was good because while one was editing the other was checking the original 'In The Sun' music video

it would have been if we wouold have been more experinced like some of the other students which would of allowed us to work faster in the begging and got more done.

Reflecting on Music Video Challenge

My role on the day of the class 'In the sun' music video task was to manage the music with Darren Bryan to complete this task to a high standard i had to watch the in the sun original movies and annotate the story board with lyrics to make sure the right lyrics was said in the right scenes and to help with timing on the day of the shoot. we also had to work with the choreographer to make sure they knew whats parts of the songs we was doing as well as working with them dancing in the video. this taught me organisation is very important because in shots that me and Darren was in we had to make sure there was someone around to help play the music and that they knew how to do it. i also had to train myself with the music because although i have done several music videos before i have never really operated the sound systems used to play the music with i normal just perform so this change taught me a lot.

i Think the music schedule was followed out with makes the video run a lot smoother especially as wen was working after school so it was important everyone new what they was doing and how long they was doing it for.

i think looking back out all the footage the performance of everyone with the camera was excellent we took some great shots which looked alot like the origanl because we payed so much attention to detail

i think the on camera performance was also amazing no one was camera shy everyone was fully willing to act or dance and did so which came accros really well on camera

we dived the roles abit more becasue some people did looked like they didnt have any thing to do at times during the day of the filming proccess

it would of been better if everyone was within the costume theme but some people like myself missed out on the comunnication of what to where so which again showed me how important comunnication is.

if we was more organised with the props becuase we spent time at the start of  our shooting time standing around waiting for eqiuptment which the group before was using but we turned a negative into a positive wen we used that time for some practise which wasnt prevouisly done.

I think that me and Darren worked well as a partnership on the music and Done our job to a high level

We got very got good materials for post production which makes it a lot easier later

there was not any technical difficulties with the equipment

we shot all the shots as we forgot some and had to re shoot at a later date

we should of been more prompt on the lip syncing

we had all equiptment from the start as we had to wait for the sound system from the other group

My role/ job description in producing This  remake of in the sun music video was to : i was working along Darren Bryan with the music and my responsibility was : i had to print out lyrics and annotate them with the visuals - location , actions characters, annotate the lyrics with the time code
cue the music while the dance coaches rehearse the choreography, i also had to sue the music on set and prompt the singers if they forget there lines and ensure the cast get the lip sync  and dances right

 In this task i learned that preparation is the key to a smooth and successful shoot. I also improved my skills with the musical technology and communication. i had to communicate with my partner on the music task and we all so had to communcate and oragnise variuos things which took alot of organisation.

I think the majority of the aspects of this music video went well. considering this is our time doing a music video, the editing and lip syncing was doen to good standard.

i also think this video is very creative and entertaining allowing little room for viewer fatuige making this a good music video in my opinion which is a good level
 to obtain on our first music video
EBI:

The lip syncing in this task however wasnt to a very high standard because there wasnt alot of it and it was slightly out of time in places which is due to poor standard editing and performance which is a problem in a lip syncing task and will need to addresed before we enter in to the production of our main graded project.

i think that the variety and type of shots combined with the editing worked well together to create a entertaining music video with no viewer fatigue.

i also think  the performance and lip syncing during this music video went very well. the performance was energetic and lip syncing was rarely out of timeso the performace was also good


EBI:

I think this music video was good overall but there was a few things that could have improved the music video. one of these things was that the it could of done with more cuts Amway's because the song has bits without any lyrics in them, so we used shots that was originally intended to be used for those parts.

i think that the second point connecting to the first was that I think we could have improved on is the viewer fatigue,because the parts of the music video that a shot went on for too long because we didnt plan for the parts without lyrics, there were several examples of this throughout the video.

What makes a good music video

I think what makes a good music video comes down to one main things which is entertainment . If  video is entertaining coupled with appropriate editing then it is a good video because they are made to entertain audiences.

a music video can be through 5 main ways:

1. variety of of scenery


2 a excellent/unsual/original performance from the musician


3. a extreme or variety of different styles of clothing (possibly trend setting)


4. sex apeal to attract males/females sexual intersts



4. storyline - with no artist performance but still entertaining


all these styles of videos are different but all equal a good music video because there entertaining so i believe entertainment makes a good music video.
